Life Events

The church in Poplar is here for you at some of the most important moments of your life. As a resident of the Parish, or a regular worshipper at one of our churches, you are entitled to a Baptism, Wedding or Funeral at All Saints or Saint Nicolas.

A member of our clergy team will always be happy to discuss this with you. To book an appointment, please contact our Parish Office, or simply approach a Priest after any service.

Baptisms & Confirmations

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives. As the sign of the cross is made on the candidate’s forehead, he or she is born again by water and the Spirit, reminding us of Jesus’s own Baptism in the Jordan. The candidate is supported by friends, family and the church community.

Though infant Baptism is common, it is never too late to be baptised: adult candidates are welcomed at All Saints and St Nick’s.

Later in life, those baptised can choose to be confirmed by the Bishop, renewing through Confirmation the promises and commitments made at Baptism.

Weddings

A Wedding blesses and unites in God’s eyes a husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation for a couple to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ, based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant.

Funerals

A Funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is an opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for a life, and to commend the departed into God's keeping.

A Requiem Mass offers this within the context of a service of Holy Communion.

Our Clergy team will be available to guide you through your sad and difficult time of loss, offering pastoral support as well as help to organise the Funeral.
